Why I Cried at a Farm: A Seed to Seal Story

We drove down the dusty Utah highway. It was only 11am but the sun was already hot. Still, we kept the windows down and let the warm, dry air cool the sweat off our faces before it could fully form.

The bossy voice from Google Maps told me to turn right up ahead. I listened, slowing the little put-put rental car down as we exited onto a country road. Only a half mile off the highway, the fields sprang up on either side: golden, purple, green.

And despite the fact that I like to think of myself as a very unemotional person. Despite the fact that I swore to my friends that I would not be crying when we went to Utah together.

Tears quickly filled my eyes.

We had arrived at Young Living’s Whispering Springs Farm in Mona, Utah.

Fear the Source

Have you ever actually seen where the stuff you use comes from?

I don’t mean the Amazon warehouse that magically gets you all your stuff in two days. I’m talking the factory that makes your shampoo (you know, the one that gives you those luscious locks) or the farm that produces the melt-in-your-mouth, can-life-get-better-than-this bacon.

Most of us don’t want to know where our stuff comes from because it comes from someplace gross like a farm in one of those animal rights videos or some chemist lab where people are wearing hazmat suits to make your body wash.

Knowing and acknowledging where our stuff comes from and what is actually in it comes with a certain level of responsibility.

Once we know what is actually in our bacon and how bad it might be for us, can we keep eating it?

Once we know what is in our shampoo, bottle of herbal supplement, cleaning product, or essential

oil, can we keep using it?

Ignorance is bliss.. unless we’re talking about Seed to Seal.

Know the Source

Seed to Seal is Young Living’s promise to the world. They promise to be a part of producing their
products from start to finish: from choosing the seeds all the way through putting the seal on the bottle.

It is their way of making sure YOU know the source of what you are putting on and in your body. It’s their promise that your supplements aren’t filled with pesticides and fillers. Your oils aren’t mixed with leftover toxic waste. Your cleaning products are actually “green”.

And it sounds pretty impressive on paper. It looks pretty cool in this video here.

It is unspeakably amazing to experience in person. So amazing, that I burst into tears. Me! The woman who does not cry while watching The Notebook.

My Seed to Seal Experience

At Young Living’s Whispering Springs Farm in Mona, Utah, I got to be a part of the Seed to Seal experience.

I planted little baby yarrow seedlings.

I examined a greenhouse full of plants not yet ready to go in the ground.

I could actually put the plants in the ground! (I didn’t because the ground was dusty and I’m a baby)

I walked in the lavender fields, knowing that one day those plants would be in a bottle that gets sent to my house.

I observed the distillation equipment, saw the oil that they were producing, and checked out the fancy schmancy computers that tests to make sure that is is pure and therapeutic.

I not only only know where my stuff comes from now.

I’ve seen it. I’ve taken part in it.

I’ve lived it.
